A Skudin Surf Staff member will be on the beach half hour prior to lesson start time, walk to the beach look for the Skudin Surf tents on the beach.
The Camp Day: designed by our staff and pros, our surf program focuses on safety, skills, balance, education, etiquette, and fun!
Introduction: Meet beach Lifeguards and certified NSSIA professional surf instructors about ocean safety, rip currents, surf safety, and surf etiquette. Every morning we have a mandatory group check in and surf conditions.
Daily Instruction: Is not only educational but also fun when done the “Skudin Surf Way.” Upon arrival to camp our Surfing staff will over see a testing period where the student will be placed into instruction groups based on their ability level.
Equipment: Surfboards, Lycra Top Rashguards, and all equipment will be provided for instruction during the camp. You may bring your own equipment and use if the instructors approve it is safe.
Instruction: Throughout the day the at this point instructors will work with the Campers and improving their surfing skills from a variety of teaching methods for all levels.
Surf Safety: Learn how to enter and exit the surf, and ride safely, with introduction to the etiquette of surfing to avoid accidents.
Ocean safety: Learn the different types of ocean and surf currents and how to safely avoid and/or maneuver through them.
Land instruction: Learn the “pop up” where students will be taught how to jump correctly from a prone position to a proper surfing stance. Also, learn how to turn and maneuver your surfboard.
Ocean surf instruction: Professional and Master surf instructors will be in the water assisting students in the correct way to catch and ride waves on their surfboards.
Levels of Instruction: Once campers have learned the basics we have different groups within the camp from beginner, intermediate, to advanced.
The Pros: Skudin Surf has become a home away from home for many of the Worlds best professional surfers With Will and Cliff Skudin on the Big Wave World Tour and all their world travels they invite the best of the best to teach along side local professionals.
Here are some reminders for your first day of camp:
- Please make sure you arrive at the beach half hour prior to your start time to check in on the beach . For Long Beach, we have a free designated parking area on Riverside and Shore Road. Beach Pass is required as you may purchase the beach pass for $16 (cash) at the ticket booth at the entrance, the fee booth is opened from 9:00- 6:00 starting 6/23.For Rockaway please enter the beach at 67th Street, street parking, there are no beach fees.
- Make sure you are prepared for a day at the beach; a lunch, drinks, towel, and sunscreen are necessary. Friday will be Pizza day!
- We will contact you via email by 7:00am ONLY if we have to cancel camp due to unsafe conditions in the ocean or heavy thunderstorms and tropical storm conditions. Any check our social media and website for alerts.
